Book Presentation: 'Locating the Producers'

Thursday 30th June, 5 p.m.

SMBA cordially invites you to the book launch of: Locating the Producers – Durational Approaches to Public Art, Paul O’Neill & Claire Doherty (eds.)

On the basis of several case studies, including Beyond in Leidsche Rijn/Utrecht (NL) and The Blue House on IJburg/Amsterdam (NL), Paul O’Neill investigates how more sustainable and more rooted art projects can be developed and implemented in the public domain. What demands does this make on artists, curators and principals, and what does it do for the environment and local community? Many current art projects in the public domain are provisional interventions, often linked with an exhibition or event. Which methods can be used to develop lasting, embedded art projects? And why is this important?

Join in the discussion of these and many other questions on Thursday June 30 at the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam. Editor Paul O’Neill (curator, artist, writer of Curating and the Educational Turn, and other publications) will discuss these topics with Mick Wilson (writer, curator, Dean of Gradcam, Dublin), Tom van Gestel (curator SKOR, artistic director Beyond, Leidsche Rijn) and Nelly Voorhuis (director Atelier HSL Foundation), moderated by Jouke Kleerebezem (artist, freelance curator).
